Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is getting flak online for getting emotional over Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) retiring, but not showing the same emotion over coronavirus deaths in the United States.
McConnell gave a speech on the Senate floor on Wednesday about Alexander, who is retiring at the end of the Senate session.
At one point in the speech, McConnell chokes up and pauses while talking about the Tennessee Republican senator.
While McConnell got emotional on the Senate floor about his friend and colleague, many people online expressed ire over the lack of emotion he showed about the approximately 270,000 deaths in the United States because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Congress has gone back and forth about a coronavirus stimulus package for months. Recently, Congress has inched toward another coronavirus bill.
That lack of movement on any kind of bill sparked fury online over McConnell’s emotion over someone retiring and not people dying.
“This is so cute! Mitch McConnell is on the senate floor not crying for the 270,000 Americans that died, but crying saying goodbye to the subserviant coward, Lamar Alexander,” one person tweeted.
A lot of other people had similar sentiments.
