In a viral TikTok, a woman brags about tricking her friend into going to the bar without being dressed for a night on the town. Her friend seems to take the gag in stride and continues to apparently enjoy her time at the bar. The problem? Amid a pandemic that’s killed 267,000 Americans, some users didn’t find anything funny about going to a packed bar.
The video boasts more than 774,000 views, and in it, the pranked friend—who wound up at the bar in a robe—takes off her mask to sip her drink.
“what state is this???? Y’all need some masks… pronto,” someone replied in the comments.
The video appears to have been taken at Sky Bar near Auburn University in Alabama, a state with a “safe at home” order through Dec. 11. The bar apparently hosted karaoke and concerts last month, according to its Instagram.
“can’t wait for the part two when one of them is tik toking from their hospital bed. that’s gonna be lit,” wrote another.
Many other comments of the more than 1,000 saw nothing wrong with the behavior—it has more than 100,000 faves.
The woman responsible for the TikTok is likely named Emily Taylor Parker, an Auburn student with more than 15,000 followers on the video-sharing platform. Her viral TikTok tagged @ann.marita, a woman who resembles the bathrobe-wearing protagonist from the video.
Parker’s apparent support for President Donald Trump, who downplayed the need for masks during the coronavirus pandemic, may explain why she thought it was OK to attend a packed bar.
In a Nov. 12 TikTok, Parker posted pro-Trump hashtags and called President-elect Joe Biden “Sleepy Joe,” joking about student debt. She posted two other anti-Biden TikToks this month, and also posted fan TikToks about Barstool Sports.
Parker follows a trend of controversial social media posts in 2020 that exist in a vacuum and ignore the surrounding pandemic.
