Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) is one of the most ardent supporters of President Donald Trump in Congress, but it appears that he is willingly forgetting one of the president’s most ardent policy planks of his time in office.
A recent NBC News story alluded to the possibility that President-elect Joe Biden does not want to prosecute Trump and his allies for possible crimes in office, preferring to turn the page.
That fired up the left wing of the party, which pointed to the lack of prosecutions of the Bush administration for war crimes as setting the foundation for Trump to commit numerous violations of the law while in office, primarily enriching himself and bilking taxpayers.
And when Gaetz saw these demands this week coming from Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-N.J.) he was rather bothered.
“This is now the Left’s goal – throw President Trump, his administration officials, his family and his supporters in prison,” he tweeted. “This is where we are now. Disgusting.”
Except that, as many people pointed out on Twitter, that was Trump’s platform in 2016.
Gaetz himself has joked on Twitter that Hillary Clinton should be locked up as well.
So perhaps he just forgot that it was his goal as well?
