Trump gets memed after praising experimental drug ‘Regeneron’

The president claims he was ‘cured’ of COVID-19, but the internet isn’t buying it.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday claimed that an experimental antibody treatment “cured” him of the coronavirus, leading many to question the actual state of Trump’s health.

In a video released on his Twitter, Trump praised “Regeneron,” the New York-based biotech company that produces REGN-COV2, for making him feel “perfect.”

Although the experimental drug has yet to be approved for use in the U.S., Trump has promised that the therapy will be free to all Americans.

“They gave me Regeneron, and it was like, unbelievable,” Trump says. “I felt good immediately. I felt as good three days ago as I do now.”

Given the secrecy around Trump’s health and the fact that doctors have warned that patients often take a turn for the worst during their second week with COVID-19, many remain skeptical of the president’s claims.

“Trump when the Regeneron side effects kick in…” @TheoShantonas tweeted.

Some questioned whether Trump had just endorsed socialized medicine.

Others accused the president of hawking the drug as if he was in an infomercial.

Many made fun of the fact that Trump was seemingly unaware that “Regeneron” is the name of the company, not the drug it produces.

“Trump keeps saying in his new Twitter video that doctors ‘gave me Regeneron. It’s called Regeneron,’” @kylegriffin1 stated. “That’s the name of the company, not a medicine. He also calls the treatment a ‘cure.’ That’s a lie.”

A major irony was also noted over the fact that the drug was made possible thanks to human embryonic stem cells, which conservatives have fought against for years.

It seems unlikely that conservatives will be lining up for either Trump’s COVID-19 vaccine or treatment made possible thanks to fetal tissue.
