It actually means “fox.”

Every new March Madness deserves a list of the best names participating in the NCAA basketball tournament. That’s why we’re proud to point out the names of players like N.C. State’s BeeJay Anya (who gave his team plenty of pleasure with this game-winning shot vs. LSU on Thursday),  Purdue’s Basil Smotherman, Michigan State’s Lourawls “Tum Tum” Nairn Jr., St. John’s Sir’Dominic Pointer, Stephen F. Austin’s Thomas Walkup, and Albany’s Dallas Ennema.

All of it makes us pray that Key & Peele put together an NCAA tournament basketball version of their hilarious Annual East/West Collegiate Bowl sketch.

But none of those players can live up to what we’re seeing north of the border with a forward for the Medicine Hat College Rattlers. Because how can you mess with the perfection of a guy whose name is Guilherme Carbagiale Fuck? That’s his real last name, by the way. Yep, it’s Fuck.

It’s not pronounced the way you might think, though.

Writes the Medicine Hat News:

What’s in a name?

For Medicine Hat College Rattlers men’s basketball forward Guilherme Carbagiale Fuck, the answer is simple: pride.

While the Brazilian basketball star’s name may stand out on paper, it’s pronounced “Foo-key” and is of German origin.

“It doesn’t mean what people think it means,” said Fuck. “In German, it means fox.”

It’s Foo-key, people—and dammit, it means fox.

But the Medicine Hat College sports PR department has been wary. That’s why, in box scores, it uses Fuck’s first and middle name, exempting his last name, and the department also asked the newspaper to do the same. The News did so until running its story on Thursday.

“When they asked my opinion, I said I want to have my last-last name, I’m not ashamed of it,” said Fuck. “I would rather always use my last-last name. Back in Brazil that’s what I use, I don’t use my first-last name.”

And Fuck’s had a great season, averaging 18.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game en route to a spot on the CCAA Men’s Basketball All-Canadians team, where he was cited for showcasing “his determination, dedication and smart decisions making (sic).” Unfortunately for Medicine Hat and Fuck, the Rattlers lost to Holland on Thursday on the first day of the CCAA national championship. But kudos to Fuck for how well he plays basketball and for the pride he takes in his surname.

And if you don’t like it, that’s pretty foo-keyed up.
