Twitter users are pointing to donations made by President Donald Trump to Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) after the politician was announced as Joe Biden’s running mate on Tuesday.
Public records, according to NBC News, show that Trump made two donations to Harris as a private citizen.
Trump in total donated $6,000 when Harris was running to become California’s attorney general. The future president gave $5,000 in 2011 and an additional $1,000 in 2013.
Not only that, but Trump’s daughter Ivanka also contributed to Harris’ campaign around the same time period. Records show Ivanka gave $5,000 in 2014.
As reported last year by the Washington Examiner, the pair made the donations after being asked to do so by then-New York’s attorney general Eric Schneiderman.
A spokesperson for Harris later claimed in 2015 that the politician opted not to keep the donations, instead gave them to a nonprofit group that advocates for Central Americans.
Late Tuesday, Trump responded to Harris becoming Biden’s running mate by criticizing the politician’s treatment of Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Left-leaning Twitter users opposed to Harris pointed to the donations as proof that the potential future vice president is untrustworthy. Fans of Harris reveled in the fact that Trump donated to a woman he now opposes.
Conservative Twitter users, on the other hand, appeared largely uninterested in discussing Trump’s long history of supporting Democratic candidates.
