Fashion influencer Ravyn Rochelle is getting roasted on social media for partying on a beach in Miami with a group of friends just days before being diagnosed with COVID-19.
Rochelle posted a video drinking on the beach on Instagram June 17 and was diagnosed with COVID-19 almost immediately after she left Miami.
Rochelle posted a 10-minute video on YouTube talking about her diagnosis and symptoms. She says she got COVID-19 in Miami after quarantining since March. Rochelle was only in Miami for two days. She said it was quieter than normal and that masks were required to go out to eat or drink, but she still got sick.
Rochelle said she decided to get tested after a friend of hers on the trip felt sick and wanted to get tested. Rochelle said she has a headache and a slight cough but is recovering from home for now.
Users on Twitter and Instagram slammed Rochelle for not social distancing, and likely further spreading COVID-19.
“If it isn’t the consequences of my own actions,” one Twitter user said in response to a side-by-side of Rochelle on the beach and her revealing her COVID-19 diagnosis.
Users also called Rochelle out for running non-essential errands even after her friend felt sick after traveling. One user alerted European Wax Center that Rochelle had been there after returning from Miami.
Even though more businesses are reopening, traveling during a pandemic is still extremely risky. Florida, in particular, is a current hotspot for the novel coronavirus. Florida has been adamant about reopening and attracts many tourists. The week of June 21, Florida reported 25,000 cases in five days, causing the state to shut down bars, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was even accused by the state’s former leading data scientist of falsifying reports to keep the official number of COVID-19 cases artificially low.
