Thanks to the police’s alleged improper barricade construction earlier in the day, protesters were able to quickly deconstruct and repurpose parts of the barricade to stop the car before the driver could run anyone down. The driver responded to this by exiting the vehicle and shooting one of the protesters who stopped him. The driver wounded the protester in the arm.

Fortunately, the gunshot wound wasn’t serious, and the protester was able to speak on live stream as medics escorted him out of the crowd, saying “my whole thing was to protect those people.”

Firefighters then escorted the protester to the hospital, and the shooter was taken into custody, according to the Seattle Police Department.

The irony of the police’s calm and nonviolent response to the shooter was not lost on Twitter commenters.

“And not a cop to be found to wrestle him to the ground, beat him, and hit him with pepper spray,” Twitter user Julius Bzozowski wrote.
