One protester found out the hard way that tear gas residue often sticks around for longer than you’d think when she went to masturbate the day after being gassed at a protest.

Assuming that several thorough handwashings were enough to remove all traces of the irritants from her skin, Fiona thought it was safe to masturbate. Unfortunately, pepper spray and tear gas are all incredibly difficult to remove from the skin, and enough of it was left behind to cause intense pain.

While most people responded with only horrified sympathy, some admitted that they’d had the same experience after their own brushes with tear gas.

Others wanted to know how long they should wait before engaging in post-tear-gas self-love bouts of their own.

Twitter users from different walks of life, whose experiences of tear gas ranged from basic training to use for protest, offered advice and safe-to-touch timelines––though none of them quite agreed with each other.

Some users wanted to know how Fiona could even manage to get horny after the protest.

The answer was apparently that she wasn’t horny. Fiona “just needed dopamine” to help handle her depression, she said.

Something many users found deeply relatable.

Fiona responded to the popularity of her tweet by sharing a list of organizations people can donate to. The Daily Dot reached out to her for comment and will update if she responds.
