The U.S. government began issuing stimulus checks Wednesday to qualifying individuals and families to cushion the economic blow from the coronavirus pandemic. As checks began to roll out, Fashion Nova sent a direct message to consumers pushing them to use the funds on its sale.

“When That Deposit Hits…Save Up to 80% SITEWIDE. Use Code: STAYIN80. Shop ASAP,” the message said, according to BuzzFeed News. The message also included a link to the Fashion Nova website.

On Twitter, people criticized Fashion Nova and emphasized that the stimulus checks are meant to address financial hardships during a national crisis. They made memes, too.

On April 8, Fashion Nova announced on Twitter that it was teaming up with Cardi B to donate $1,000 an hour until May 20 to individuals impacted by the coronavirus.

Still, people are accusing the company of “prying on the weak” after Wednesday’s message.
