Marianne Williamson Trump Manson Tweet

Marianne Williamson, the author and spiritual adviser running for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, tweeted about President Donald Trump pardoning cult leader Charles Manson early Monday morning before deleting it, presumably because it didn’t happen.

Williamson called the false idea that Trump pardoned Manson “deeply sinister” in her tweet.

“There is something deeply sinister about Trump pardoning Charles Manson, even posthumously. Dog whistles of the very worst possible kind…,” Williamson tweeted early Monday morning.

Manson was notoriously anti-Semitic and her tweet comes on the heels of Trump being criticized for using Jewish tropes during a speech.

Trump would not be able to pardon Manson even if he wanted to, as the former cult leader—who died in 2017—was convicted of state crimes.

The tweet has since been deleted. As the Washington Post notes, Williamson followed up her original tweet saying that she was “glad to have been wrong” before deleting that tweet as well.

Several people online have pointed out that the Daily Kos in mid-November republished a satirical article from another website claiming Trump pardoned Manson as part of its community submitted posts.

So perhaps that’s where Williamson got the idea?

Or maybe she was just watching Once a Time in Hollywood?
