Instagram and Facebook were down Thursday morning, and since the outage occurred on the morning of Thanksgiving in the U.S., many people responded with holiday-related jokes and memes.
Facebook confirmed to the Daily Dot that Facebook’s family of apps, including Instagram, were experiencing outages Thursday morning.
“We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible,” a Facebook spokesperson told the Daily Dot.
DownDetector.com reported a spike in reported issues with Instagram beginning around 8am CT. The site reported that outages for Facebook, which owns Instagram, increased at the same time.
Maps on DownDetector show many of the Instagram reports in the U.K. (with some on the east coast of the U.S.), while users across the U.S. reported outages on Facebook.
It’s unclear how widespread the app outages really were, but people on Twitter have said they’re unable to access both Facebook and Instagram.
As they awoke Thanksgiving morning, many users tweeted jokes that with #Instagramdown, they’d be forced to talk to their families.
