As the decade comes to an end, Twitter users are debating what we all want to know: what is the best meme of the decade? Twitter user @GenePark posed the question Wednesday, and others are passionately defending their favorite memes.

Some popular contenders are “distracted boyfriend” and “this is fine”. The “distracted boyfriend” meme skyrocketed to fame in 2017, and people still love to use it on social sites. The stock photo shows a man checking out another woman to the horror of his girlfriend, and it’s used to illustrate guilty pleasures. The stock photo is actually part of a series, and other images with the same man and woman were memed, too.

The “this is fine” dog meme is older but just as influential. It started circulating back in 2014 but never seemed to stop being shared. If anything, the “this is fine” meme has become even more relevant as the world continues to literally burn.

“Galaxy brain,” “woman yelling at cat”, and “blinking white guy” are other popular responses that started picking up traction.
The “woman yelling at cat” meme is arguably one of the best memes to come out of 2019, and is a serious contender for meme of the decade. The meme is actually a mashup of sorts. Twitter user @missingegirl first combined a screenshot of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills‘ Taylor Armstrong crying next to the confused cat meme. The meme was an instant hit and even inspired Halloween costumes.
