Meet McKenzie Carey, YouTube’s newest viral video star.
Carey, 12, suffers from mitochondrial disease, which has confined her to a wheelchair. But that didn’t stop her from having fun at a recent local pageant—even with her dad on stage with her.
The father-daughter dance has gained 4.1 million views since it was posted to YouTube June 17. Furthermore, the media attention has lead to an outpour of support to help the Carey family pay for McKenzie’s alternative therapy treatments. They have currently raised $87,000 of their $100,000 goal from 1,920 donors.
“Wow… I’m at a loss for words. I am so overwhelmed and truly touched by all the love and support we are receiving. This is truly a blessing and God is working a miracle right now. God bless you all. We will be forever greatful,” Carey’s mother Tammy Michelle Carey posted on the family’s GoFundMe page.
