Lorde stans are using the hashtag #FreeLorde under the belief that the pop sensation is facing jail time over a $3,000 dollar fine.
“Imagine wanting to imprison an artist who made NZ so famous and well known for a having a talented 16 year old girl, Lorde who her concerts were being sold in minutes and Royals is a #1 hit and changed the pop music… we gotta save Lorde till we die #FreeLORDE,” Twitter user @ThisisAdham wrote.

The rumor began after New Zealand’s National Party stated it was considering fining the parents of children who do not finish school. Current New Zealand laws state that students must stay in school until the age of 16.
This would technically include Lorde. The now 22-year-old dropped out of high school her junior year, the same year she released her chart-topping debut album, Pure Heroine. As a result, the singer failed to complete her final year of school, meaning that if the policy materializes, Lorde’s family would have to fork over $3,000 dollars.
Contrary to the rumors Twitter spread earlier this week, Lorde would not be the one fined under this new policy, nor is she currently facing any jail time.
But this revelation did not stop the internet from running wild with memes about Lorde going to prison.
“Lorde saved us and the music industry with Melodrama. It is our turn to save Lorde,” a Lorde stan account wrote, along with a Big Little Lies meme.

Many joked about freeing Lorde from prison.
“Let’s storm Auckland Prison they can’t stop us, if we naruto runs we can move faster than them cops #FreeLORDE,” Twitter user @dyinglordstan wrote.

Other ways stans are plotting to save Lorde are by getting an online law degree, distracting the guards with killer dance moves, and speaking directly to New Zealand.

It seems, if anything, Twitter is just having fun while waiting for Lorde to drop her highly anticipated third album. After topping the charts with Pure Heroine and releasing her critically acclaimed Melodrama, her fans are only anxious to see what happens next.
Luckily, Lorde announced earlier this year that she was working on new music, so it looks like fans won’t have to wait much longer.
