Eisenberg found fame through his role in the ’90s Star Trek spin-off. Health issues plagued the 50-year-old actor his entire life after he was born with only one partially functioning kidney. A kidney transplant at 17 saved his life but limited his growth. Thankfully, Eisenberg’s short stature perfectly suited his role as Nog, a member of the extraterrestrial Ferengi race on Star Trek. Eisenberg was also known for roles in Tales from the Crypt, General Hospital, and Amityville: The Evil Escapes.

The same health issues that began when he was a child likely led to Eisenberg’s death on Saturday, but police have not confirmed the cause of death. His wife, Malíssa Longo, posted a heartfelt message to Facebook following his death. “He was an intelligent, humble, funny, emphatic soul,” she wrote. “He sought to live his life with integrity and truth.”

Longo noted, in her Facebook post, that she and Eisenberg got married recently. “We didn’t officially announce that we had eloped on Dec. 28, 2018,” she wrote. “We were hoping to have a big shindig in celebration of our nuptials, but had to wait to save up the money.”

“There will never be another light like Aron’s,” she added, near the end of the post. “The beauty that he was and the legacy he leaves behind is beyond words. I love him dearly and will miss him eternally.”

Fans of Eisenberg and his work, as well as friends and old co-workers, have flooded social media with fond recollections of his life. “I am completely heartbroken and devastated to hear about the passing of Aron Eisenberg,” one fan wrote. “He was an incredible actor and gave us such a beautiful and heartfelt performance as our beloved Nog. And what a warm, caring and friendly person! My heart goes out to his family and friends.”
