Andrew Yang: ‘I’m Asian, so I know a lot of doctors’

At tonight’s Democratic debate, as the conversation moved to healthcare, Andrew Yang cracked an off-color joke.

“I’m Asian, so I know a lot of doctors,” Yang said, while discussing mounting paperwork doctors face.

It didn’t go over well online.

“Breaking news: Yang loses Asian vote,” @AnnaArdelean tweeted.

This comment came as Yang was given a moment to talk about his plan for healthcare.

“[Doctors] tell me they spend a lot of time on paperwork, avoiding being sued and navigating the insurance bureaucracy,” Yang sai.

Yang said he wants to “take the pressure off the backs of the American people” by running healthcare like a business. “We have to change the incentive so instead of revenue and activity, people are focused on our health.”

Still, Twitter couldn’t get over Yang’s use of his race.

Yang has recently pivoted away from the Medicare for All promise that most Democrats are putting forth, recently removing the language from his campaign website.
