Both Facebook and Instagram are experiencing outages across the globe, causing issues with major features such as posting and sending messages.
Facebook stated Wednesday morning that it had been alerted to the incident and was working to remediate the problem.
“We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps,” the company said in a tweet. “We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”

Reports indicate countries including the U.S., the U.K., Canada, and Turkey have been affected. Many users trying to access Facebook say they have been met with a message indicating that the site is “down for maintenance.”
According to the Verge, WhatsApp users in Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, India, and Paraguay have also reported technical problems.
More than two hours after their initial statement, Facebook told users that work to fix the outages was ongoing and that the incident was not caused by a distributed-denial-of-service (DDoS) attack.
We’re focused on working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, but can confirm that the issue is not related to a DDoS attack.

Unsurprisingly, an influx of Instagram and Facebook users migrated to Twitter to bemoan the technical errors.

Others simply mocked the social media giant for having to use Twitter to notify users.

Facebook thus far has not provided further detail on what is causing the widespread issue.
