The developer posted a special promotional video today on Twitter that took time to explore the past, present and even future of the Mass Effect series, much to the fans’ surprise.

For those unfamiliar with the popular RPG series, “N7” refers to a special code within the military in the game. The letter “N” is a special forces designation, and the rank of “7” is the highest level of proficiency that can be awarded. This rank is awarded to characters who have been dubbed graduates of the Interplanetary Combatives Training (ICT) program and is only for the most elite of candidates. Both Commander Shepard, Mass Effect 1-3’s protagonist, and Ryder, Mass Effect Andromeda’s hero, are designated as N7 personnel.

The conclusion of the video announced that the latest game in the Mass Effect series, Mass Effect Andromeda, now features support for Xbox One X consoles. The patch is available now via download through Xbox Live, which will offer new features such as HDR support. Mass Effect Andromeda is by far the weakest of the trilogy, but it’s the newest adventure fans have, for now.

Fans’ reactions to the news ran the gamut from anger that Mass Effect Andromeda was disappointing to utter excitement.

But there was another surprise during the video that shocked fans. While employees shared their thoughts on what N7 Day “means to them,” the most important line was a bit of a hint for what’s to come. The general manager and Mass Effect director states that N7 Day means “coming into the studio every day dreaming about what the next great Mass Effect game will be,” before taking a swig out of a Mass Effect coffee mug. It’s emblazoned with “I should go,” a popular, humorous quote attributed to Commander Shepard.

It looks like the future is bright for Mass Effect, but we don’t know what’s on the way just yet. Here’s hoping we cross paths with Shepard once more someday (in the past, but…we’ll take what we can get.)
