Seventeen-year-old competitive gymnast Jordan Chiles is a real-life Wonder Woman.
Chiles was on the U.S. women’s gymnastics team from 2013 to 2017, meaning she’s already a certified badass. She’s won medals on the national and international levels, and while she didn’t make the U.S. team this year, she certainly made a splash. At the national championships this week, she competed wearing a Wonder Woman cosplay outfit, using the Wonder Woman theme as her backing music.
This all went down during the floor exercise, one of the most popular competition elements. Athletes get a lot of creative freedom here, allowing them to choreograph complex routines with their own costumes and music.
Chiles joins a growing lineup of nerdy athletes who compete with sci-fi and superhero-themed programs. Along with the Marvel superhero costumes worn by Team USA’s skiers at the Winter Olympics this year, we’ve recently seen a Harry Potter gymnastics routine and competitive figure skaters dressing up as anime characters and skating to Star Wars music. Whoever said sports aren’t for geeks?
