Trump Hollywood Star vandalized pickaxe

In 2007, President Donald Trump was given a star on the historic stretch of street known as the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Now, in light of basically everything Trump has done, said, and tweeted, the West Hollywood Council is trying to have the star removed.

The West Hollywood City Council passed a resolution to urge the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to remove President Trump’s star, citing his attacks on “minorities, immigrants, and other groups” as grounds for removal. The council shared the resolution with the office of West Hollywood Mayor John Duran, who then made a statement to NBC News.

Duran explained in the email to NBC that the Council didn’t pass the resolution for political reasons.

“The West Hollywood City Council did not pass the resolution because Donald Trump is a conservative or a Republican. Earning a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is an honor. When one belittles and attacks minorities, immigrants, Muslims, people with disabilities or women — the honor no longer exists.”

Having a star on the Walk of Fame means you’ve “made it” in the eyes of Hollywood and the removal of a Walk of Fame star is rare. Trump 2007 concrete award was given due in part to his success as a reality TV star but specifically for his work with the Miss Universe pageant.

Hollywood pariahs like Kevin Spacey and Brett Ratner, both accused of sexual misconduct by numerous people, still have stars on the ground. Even Bill Cosby’s star is still in place. Leron Gubler, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce president and CEO, told Yahoo! Movies in 2017 that “The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a registered historic landmark. Once a star has been added to the Walk, it is considered a part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”

Even if Trump’s Walk of Fame star stays put, regular people are doing their damnedest to remove the concrete homage on their own. In July, 24-year-old Austin Clay took apart the star with a pickaxe. It’s the second pickaxe removal attempt, the first coming before the 2016 Presidential Election.

The West Hollywood Council has no jurisdiction over the Walk of Fame. Their resolution was passed to Gubler and the Chamber of Commerce who said in a statement that the chamber would consult the resolution “for consideration at their next meeting.”
