Warning: Includes descriptions of child abuse.
In a disturbing video set to the sounds of a wailing toddler, three teenage girls can be heard laughing as one allegedly sparks a Taser and thrusts it at a year-old child. The caption “I’m dyin’” reportedly accompanied the video, which was originally posted to Snapchat.
The mother of the young child brought her to Conway Regional Medical Center in Arkansas after having the Snapchat video brought to her attention, where a child abuse report was filed. According to the police report, the Snapchat video “appeared to depict three female teens laughing hysterically while taunting the baby girl with a Taser, which caused the child to scream and sob in uncontrollable fear.”
“In the video, you can see and hear the electric prongs on the Taser lighting up,” Officer Brittani A. Little stated in her report.
The video reportedly later shows one of the teens smacking the child in the back of the head, eliciting yet another wail from the child, their arms reaching out for help. Officer Little’s report also indicated that the child seemed out of breath from crying for such an extensive length of time.
All three teenagers have been arrested by the Conway police and charged with “endangering the welfare of a minor in the first degree.” They are currently being held in the Faulkner County Juvenile Detention Center and are awaiting a court date.
The Conway Regional Medical Center noted that the toddler evidently suffered no physical injuries as a result of the abuse.
Little’s report also indicated that two of the teens blamed the third “for posting the videos and neither of them saw wrongdoing in their actions.”
Snapchat, like many other social media, has seen its fair share of abuse recorded and proliferated on its platform. In July, a driver collided with and killed a Black man on the side of a road, only later garnering attention for his Snapchat video where he laughed about the incident and used a racial slur.
