Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) bested Jimmy Kimmel 11-9 in a 1-on-1 basketball game in Houston Saturday night after Kimmel compared Cruz to a blobfish on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Leading up to the match-up, both Kimmel and Cruz—who are 50 and 47, respectively—spent plenty of time on social media (and Kimmel on his show) demonstrating how they were training for the big game. But it was an entirely different story once the game, which Kimmel titled the Blobfish Basketball Classic, began. (For one, Kimmel’s jersey featured the URL for Everytown For Gun Safety.)

Kimmel and Cruz took their trash-talking straight to the court as Kimmel called Cruz out for spending more time practicing for the game than “trying to get those kids out of that detention center.”

Cruz’s shot went straight to Hollywood as he insinuated that Hollywood should get out of its bubble and listen to the Americans who aren’t happy with how the country is being run. Cruz was booed for his statement, which Kimmel gleefully pointed out.

We don’t see much of the game itself through social media, which might’ve been a blessing in disguise. At one point, Kimmel and Cruz agreed to lower the number of points needed to win the game to 11.

But Kimmel is taking his defeat in good spirit, pointing out that the real winners of the game were the two Texas charities (Generation One and Texas Children’s) that would benefit from their game.

More of the game’s highlights (and lowlights) will air Monday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
