‘I was always the baddest.’

'In high school... people are freshmen. Sophomores. Juniors. Sometimes even seniors. But me? I was always the baddest.'

It’s not easy to come up with a quote to put in your high school yearbook. It needs to be something that sums up your personality in a hopefully funny, but barring that, at least meaningful way. After all, this is something your grandkids, and possibly even great-grandkids, might look back on to learn who you were at their age.

All that pressure prompted Joanna, a high school senior in San Diego, California, to reach out for help. But instead of turning to friends or family, Hildreth asked her favorite comedian, Jaboukie Young-White, best known for his work on the Netflix shows American Vandal and Big Mouthfor his input on her quote.

Not only did Young-White respond, he delivered what sounds like the opening narration to best movie about high school ever made:

“In high school… people are freshmen. Sophomores. Juniors. Sometimes even seniors. But me? I was always the baddest.”

Obviously, Joanna was happy to include the brilliant line below her photo.

The teen also asked people to retweet the picture so Young-White would be sure see it—and the plan worked.

It’s a safe bet that it’s the most badass quote in the whole yearbook, and although Hildreth was a little self-conscious about her photo…

People loved both the picture and the quote.

Naturally, this led to some other people asking for help with their yearbook quotes.

But, this roaring success aside, it’s probably better to come up with your own quote. Look deep inside yourself, think about who you are, and start writing.

Just don’t claim to be the baddest. That title has already been claimed.
