Netflix is expanding into the world of comics publishing. After buying the rights to Mark Millar’s Millarworld comics, which include Kick-Ass and Kingsman, it’s launching a new original comic from Millar and celebrated Marvel artist Olivier Coipel.
The Magic Order is a fantasy story in the style of a mob family drama, featuring five families of magicians who protect our world from supernatural attacks. These vigilante magicians operate in disguise under the cover of darkness, and the comic begins with them being targeted by a mysterious killer. Millar has already compared The Magic Order to both King Lear and The Sopranos, which is… ambitious.
Since it’s coming from Netflix, the comic announcement arrived with its own trailer.
The Millarworld deal was all about Netflix finding new properties to develop into screen franchises, so we can expect a Magic Order adaptation if this comic is a success.
