Hipsters are not sheep. The question is: Are they entirely human?
Snakes and snails and puppy dog tails probably make a thrash metal band. Sugar and spice and everything nice makes a hit show on the Food Network. But what really makes a hipster? Filmmaker David Packer of the British endeavor Sheepfilms thinks he knows. It’s not American Spirits, Pabst Blue Ribbon, or an esoteric taste in mandolin metal. It’s an ostentatious beard, a Euro scarf, and a precious, nerdy pair of specs.
Hipster goose has it all, including self-parody: retro, non-ironic facial hair (1812 called and wants its personal grooming back); greige, knitted scarf implying offstage, Etsy-centric girlfriend; and non-prescription Buddy Holly glasses, along with a strong dose of herd instinct. Animate it with a self-satisfied waddle, and you’ve got the hipster spirit animal. Tumblr, prepare thyself.
