Trump openly trolls Women’s March by self-congratulating his ‘milestones’ for women

Does Trump not know what the Women’s March stands for?

Hell hath no fury like President Donald Trump seeing women doing something for themselves, and his latest tweet about the second-annual Women’s March proves it.

On Saturday, the one-year anniversary of Trump’s presidential inauguration and the date of the second-annual Women’s March, Trump tweeted a self-congratulatory message insisting that women participating in this year’s march are celebrating his success.

“Beautiful weather all over our great country, a perfect day for all Women to March,” Trump tweeted. “Get out there now to celebrate the historic milestones and unprecedented economic success and wealth creation that has taken place over the last 12 months. Lowest female unemployment in 18 years!”

Trump has spent the first year of his presidency attempting to curb women’s reproductive rights and access to affordable healthcare. He seems to have forgetten—or is just brazenly ignoring—that the 2017 Women’s March, hosted a day after his inauguration and which brought in significantly more participants than his poorly-attended event, was created in response to his election as president.

The tenants of the Women’s March are rooted in the resistance of the oppression of people brought on by his administration, with the 2018 march, “Power to the Polls,” specifically aiming to “channel the energy and activism of the Women’s March into tangible strategies and concrete [election] wins in 2018.” These women are not only marching, but they’re also running against Trump. And yet on Twitter, Trump has claimed credit for helping women with a year of “economic success and wealth creation.”

Of course, several critics saw the irony in Trump’s tweet and are waiting for him to figure it out.

Sure, Trump. Keep trolling the women of this movement. They’ll be laughing along with you—straight to the polls—for the next two years.
