As much as Super Mario fans want to save Princess Peach and see Bowser fall to his death, no one ever really wants the game to end. Luckily, a group of Super Mario Bros. super fans solved that dilemma by creating Newer Super Mario Bros. DS for your enjoyment!
Produced with software called New Super Mario Bros. Editor, a program that’s equal parts amazing and legally sketchy, the fan-enhanced version of the 2006 DS release features 80 additional levels that are free to play if you have a ROM of the original DS game and a compatible emulator. The team recommends DeSmuME, which they say works “pretty much perfectly.”

The new ROM patch includes eight new world maps, with both original game mechanics and updates to old ones. It will also feature a totally new soundtrack. Those psyched to download should probably act fast because Nintendo is known for taking swift action against copyright infringement. This playable work of fan art could disappear from the internet pretty quickly.
The New Super Mario Bros. developer team also created a Wii version last summer that is still available to download for your enjoyment.
