Star Wars: The Last Jedi is full of cinematic moments that would, in any other film, each serve as the film’s climax. And while Rey and Kylo Ren’s lightsaber battle against Snoke’s Elite Praetorian Guard took our breaths away, it’s the recreation of Kylo Ren’s final showdown against his former Jedi master that helped cement the film’s—and Luke Skywalker’s—status as the best among them.
Animator John Stratman brings this fight to life in 16-bit animation, and although it’s missing some of the close-up shots that made that meeting so powerful—a byproduct of the 16-bit animation—it’s got all of the detail. From the swelling orchestral music to Luke’s shoulder brush and some of the tells that something is just a little off about the entire sequence, it makes the fight feel like something we could’ve easily watched as a cutscene in a Last Jedi video game.
Yep, Luke’s still got it.
