Seven-year-old Daniel Barden was one of 20 children who lost their lives in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting. A new Facebook video takes you inside the devastation.
Since this tragedy, the Barden family has taken Daniel’s memories and turned them into a foundation, What Would Daniel Do (WWDD). The foundation pays tribute to Daniel’s life and works to inspire and empower others.
“Our goal is to help individuals build a sense of community and reduce social isolation,” the foundation says on its website. “We believe by bringing awareness to these issues and providing opportunities for interaction and acceptance, cultural change will occur.”
In addition to spreading awareness and raising money for initiatives such as the Sandy Hook Promise, WWDD has an intimate social media presence with posts about the life of Daniel.
The WWDD Facebook page has more than 50,000 Likes. Each heartbreaking post about a memory of Daniel or the pain of the aftermath of Sandy Hook is full of supportive comments.

The family said after the tragedy that one of Daniel’s family members found themselves repeatedly asking herself, “What would Daniel do?” The family said Daniel’s kindness knew no boundaries and they hope to show compassion to others in the same way he did.
“Change a life by this way of life– ask yourself, ‘WWD?’,” the foundation says.
