Box office records may have been smashed into smithereens in part thanks tothe Hulk’s fury, but the actor who plays the green behemoth in The Avengers contained his anger when his Twitter account was hacked.

Mark Ruffalo has been an active Twitter user since 2009. Under the handle @Mruff221, the Oscar-nominated actor racked up more than 150,000 followers. On the weekend his latest film broke the all-time opening weekend records in North America, Ruffalo lost that account to a hacker on Sunday.

The hacker changed the account’s username to @Mark_Ruffalo and posted a number of spammy tweets. Most appear to have been deleted, though one linking to a list of which women in Hollywood have the best breasts remains.

Ruffalo still had access to the account and was able to post meta commentary on the hack as the tweets were being posted: “It’s kind of hilarious me getting hacked today. I got to hand it to the hacker. Kind of genius.”

Ruffalo acted quickly after his account was compromised and appeared to have restored order within a few hours, except for one pesky little detail. He had ownership of the @Mark_Ruffalo account and not the @Mruff221 handle he’d built up over three years and used to tweet from more than 5,000 times.

However, a fan of the actor leapt into action to re-register @Mruff221 and turn it into a placeholder for the star. Ruffalo thanked the enterprising tweeter, who later sent the login credentials for the account to the actor after he regained full control over @Mark_Ruffalo.

Ruffalo is in two minds over which name to use going forward after the “fun” incident. Given the dual personality he most recently adopted on screen, maybe he’ll use one for standard tweets and the other when he’s angry.
