George Zimmerman’s legal team is tired of the exorbitant amount of negative press targeting the Florida man accused of shooting and killing an unarmed teenager.

So now they are fighting back with a new blog, Facebook page, and Twitter account where they are dispelling rumors and answering questions.

The decision to launch a social media campaign was not an easy one, but a necessary one, the firm said on its blog.

“We understand that it is unusual for a legal defense to maintain a social media presence on behalf of a defendant, but we also acknowledge that this is a very unusual case … First, we contend that social media in this day and age cannot be ignored.”

The firm’s Facebook page features a flurry of posts explaining explaining its purpose and asking people to identify fraudulent websites collecting money on Zimmerman’s behalf. But like most discussions about the case, the conversation quickly turned to Trayvon Martin, the dead teenager, and whether Zimmernan is innocent.

“George, the liberal media is trying you in the press; they don’t want your side to have a media presence. I am glad you have this site to represent your side,” Thomas Ritch wrote.

“This legal team is doing anything for ATTENTION! You know your client is guilty and further more what’s your defense he tried to make G.Z choke on a skittle? You guys make me sick!” commented Kyrus Sessoms-Garvin.

Zimmerman’s new social media presence comes only three days after his first shoddy looking site was dragged through the mud. With Zimmerman out on $150,000 bail, it remains to be seen whether Zimmerman’s fancy new social media profiles will help influence public opinion.
