Metroid games never come out fast enough to satisfy diehards. Axiom Verge doesn’t have Samus in it but will feel awesomely familiar.
After a freak accident, scientist Trace finds himself smack dab in the middle of an alien world. He must explore, gain new abilities and fight a strange (but oddly familiar) enemy. Does this patter sound familiar? Axiom Verge offers the same great open-world sidescrolling you get in a classic Metroid.
Still, Axiom Verge is so awesome it will all seem new again, with fresh retro-style graphics and awesome weapons Samus could only dream of. There’s a reason it’s been ported to every system under the sun at this point: it’s universally amazing. Best of all, it’s available for about half the price of a modern title despite being twice as fun.
Axiom Verge is available for Nintendo Switch and PS4 and is available online for $10-$20 depending on the platform.
