‘Lady Bird’ sets Rotten Tomatoes record as best-reviewed movie ever

It just surpassed ‘Toy Story 2.’

Lady Bird just graduated from “that movie all your friends are telling you to see” to “record-breakingly well-liked.”

Rotten Tomatoes announced Monday that the coming-of-age movie—Greta Gerwig’s first as a director—has now become “the most reviewed film to ever remain at 100% on the Tomatometer.” In other words: Lots of critics are publishing their opinions on the story of Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson’s senior year of high school, and all of them are positive.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, 165 reviews for Lady Bird have run so far, and it still maintains its 100 percent fresh status. The previous record holder, Toy Story 2, had maintained the top seat since 1999 with 163 reviews.

As Vulture points outLady Bird has already garnered three Gotham Award nominations, four Independent Spirit Award nominations, and “opened with the best per-theater average of any movie this year” ($375,612 from just four locations).

Oscar season isn’t here yet, but this is definitely cause to crank up the Dave Matthews and celebrate.
