The internet loves @dril. No one Twitter account captures the general ridiculousness of the internet. But most people didn’t know who ran the account, and that was fine. Then on Friday, people began talking about someone revealing dril’s identity and personal information, also known as doxing. The information was apparently revealed on Tumblr.
However, it’s not necessarily a new phenomenon. There are Tumblr posts several years old that claim to know who the man behind dril is (click here if you want to know), as well as tweets that confirm the name. A discussion on Reddit about dril’s identity was posted two months ago.
But it’s a Tumblr post from Thursday and corresponding reactions on Twitter made dril’s speculated identity go viral. And people are blaming Tumblr.

Twitter users, especially fans of the @dril account, aren’t thrilled about the news. They don’t want to know the identity of the person who runs the account.

If you have spent any amount of reasonable time trying to figure out who Dril is, you should never be allowed to vote.

Some Twitter users offered a way to protect dril:
The only way to protect dril is for everyone to say “I am dril” like the “i’m spartacus” line
