Deadmau5 has been trolling hard on the Internet lately: rocking Skrillex’s cell phone number at the Grammy’s, calling out Madonna, and feuding with modern lounge singer Michael Bublé.
Now the Canadian DJ has punked his fans.
Earlier Monday afternoon, deadmau5 posted a note on Facebook with the blunt summation: “albums done. check it!”
Instead of catching a glimpse of the new album, however, fans were treated to an 8-bit version of “Jingle Bells” that one Facebook user called “DubMario5Tep.”
While even the most elaborate April Fools’ Day pranks have quickly expired, the kids seemed genuinely thrilled by the move. In under 30 minutes, the post received more than 3,000 likes and was shared 300 times.
“[T]roll level: Mau5,” proclaimed Mateo Francisco Haskins Veritas.
“Very silly, but oddly awesome,” added Morgan Valley.
Only deadmau5 can turn Christmas carols into a rave.
