The emoji are finally here!
iPhones are getting a significant software upgrade today with the launch of iOS 11.1. The release includes bug fixes and new features, including a set of emoji.
Most importantly, it fixes a critical vulnerability in the protocol used in all modern Wi-Fi networks. Fortunately, once your device gets an update, it’s safe from “KRACK” attacks even when connected to an unsecured router.
The update also adds Unicode 10 emoji that Apple teased earlier this year. The emoji range from cute animals like this porcupine, cricket, giraffe, and dinosaur…
…to more Halloween-appropriate characters, including this vampire and mermaid.
Let’s not forget about the food. Apple hit all the essentials here: wantons for appetizers, healthy broccoli, not-so-healthy takeout Chinese, and delicious pie to wash it all down.
Apple is also expanding on the classic smiley face with a potty mouth and this goofy guy with his tongue sticking out.
Other changes include the return of a 3D Touch gesture that lets you press the side of your display to switch apps and small fixes to accessibility settings and Photos.
