Hundreds of thousands of Facebook users agree with rapper Diggy Simmons: They’re not racist.
Simmons, who’s hip-hop royalty—he’s the son of Run D.M.C. founder Rev. Run—has become modestly famous in his own right. He rose to prominence on the MTV reality show Run’s House and is currently signed to Atlantic Records.
On Sunday, he posted a photo of a black man and white woman’s hands intertwined, along with a simple message: “Like if you’re not racist ♥.” It’s already been liked over 143,000 times.
The actual photo is cropped from the poster of Spike Lee’s 1991 film Jungle Fever, a story about a married black man (Wesley Snipes) who has an affair with a white woman (Annabella Sciorra). There’s no indication in the comments that most users know—or care—about the photo’s origin.
There’s only one prominent comment under the photo, with over 3,000 likes, which sadly has a tinge or racism despite a claim to the contrary. “Im not racist but why is his hand so damn black? Lol,” wrote Ariel Carlaho.
