How do we know that Skifcha, the Russian dubstep cat, is the most famous of Internet-famous cats?
There’s his entry in the Know Your Meme database, sure. But his real legacy comes in all the parodies.
Originally created by Russian filmmaker and artist Denis Borisovich, the dubstep-animal tradition has moved beyond cats to include people.
Here are some of the Daily Dot’s favorite Skifcha parodies so far, based off Skifcha’s most famous video, “Stereo Skifcha.”
“Kiefa,” one of the first Skifcha parodies, comes from Germany. The 35-second video features a young man wearing Skifcha’s now-iconic wide-framed paper glasses.
Mishka, the YouTube-famous talking husky from New Jersey, rocks the Skifcha look well, in a 24 second parody viewed more than one million times to date (counting illegal video copies).
Many women have tried to emulate Skifcha, from a redheaded American and a blonde Russian named Kate to a self-described “MILF” from the UK. Hungarian filmmaker Gabor Magyar’s 36-second version, titled “The Human Skifcha,” has been viewed 500,000 times in two weeks.
A Russian dubstep parakeet has been remixed countless times to date. One version of the video, uploaded two days ago, currently sits on the front page of YouTube’s Comedy (and animal) section.
Nicknamed Fishka in the style of Skifcha, the green bird does not, unfortunately, wear paper glasses.
Another bird-related video billed as a Skifcha parody is this pair of owls on Vimeo.
