Maybe everyone who turns themselves into the police should bring donuts.

Michael Zaydel, AKA “Champagne Torino,” has turned himself into Michigan’s Redford Township Police Department after losing a challenge he posted to the department’s Facebook page.

On Oct. 6, after being called out for insulting the department online, Zaydel messaged the RTPD and said that not only would he turn himself in, he would clean up trash at local schools and even bring donuts if the department’s next post got over 1,000 shares. It was a challenge police were happy to accept.

The post quickly surpassed that goal and has now been shared over 4,000 times. Still, as time passed, many people doubted Zaydel would make good on his promise.

But it turns out, the haters were all wrong. On Monday, Zaydel walked into the RTPD and turned himself in, bringing a dozen donuts and even one bagel.

“To be honest with you I didn’t expect it to blow up this big,” Zaydel told WXYZ News, moments before turning himself in, “You know, to be honest I’m disappointed that this is what our law enforcement agencies have come down to, to reduce themselves to going back and forth with people on Facebook.”

According to WXYZ, Zaydel was wanted for a probation violation related to a DUI and other charges. He has been sentenced to 39 days in jail after pleading guilty.

No word on whether or not he’ll be cleaning up the trash at all those schools.
