An elementary teacher in Batesville, Mississippi, was fired after making a racist comment on Facebook. Cammie Rone, who taught in the South Panola School District, allegedly made a post berating African Americans for activism and stating they should “move back to Africa.’
The post suggested African Americans holding protests and rallying together means they don’t work and just leech off of the government. In a reality where the president was endorsed by the Ku Klux Klan and repeatedly made racist comments, and African Americans are disproportionately brutalized by police, many have seen protest as a necessity.
Rone claimed she was hacked in a follow-up comment after the district placed her on leave while investigating the matter. Parents expressed concern to local news outlets about Rone continuing to teach at the school.
“If anyone knows me I post about cows, recipes, and home improvements. Not racism,” she wrote.
Rone was ultimately fired on Thursday.
