In a post directed to his fans, Aaron Carter came out as bisexual this weekend.
Carter made the announcement using the ever-popular celebrity strategy of screenshotting a note on his phone. “This doesn’t bring me shame,” he wrote. “Just a weight and a burden I have held onto for a long time that I would like lifted off me.”
Carter explained that while his high-profile career has brought him a lot of professional fulfillment, he wouldn’t feel like he was living an authentic life if he wasn’t open about his identity. “I grew up in this entertainment industry… and when I was around 13-years-old I started to find boys and girls attractive,” Carter explained. “Music will ALWAYS be what transcends all of us and myself. The studio has always been my safe haven. But the ultimate goal for me is to be satisfied. I never want to be a figure of disappointment.”

Between Carter and Justin Bieber, it’s been a big summer for bad boy teen heartthrobs getting a little more serious about being role models.
