With 30 million unique visitors and close to 2 billion page views a month, it’s safe to say a lot happens on the link-sharing and discussion site Reddit every day. There are more than 90,000 sections on the site; a single discussion alone can sometimes attract more than 10,000 comments.

How can anyone keep track of it all? Our daily Reddit Digest highlights the most interesting or important discussions from around the site—every morning.

  • Competitive eater and gastrointestinal freak of nature Takeru Kobayashi is doing a video AMA. He’s already put out the call for questions and will post a video response at 11 AM EST Wednesday. (/r/IAmA)

  • /r/videos has dug up a video of Utica, NY police planting evidence on a suspect. The best part? It was all recorded on the police officers’ own dash cam. Amazingly, the Utica Phoenix (an alternative newspaper) hasn’t collapsed under the weight of Reddit. (/r/videos)

  • In /r/pics, someone has found a photograph of the man who owns the “most famous hill in the world” (the one set as the default Windows XP background). In the photo, he stands in front of the hill, holding a framed version of the famous photograph. Redditors are quick to post high-quality versions of the photograph and reminisce. They must have better memories of Windows XP than I. For me, just looking at the photograph, called “Bliss,” inspires a sense of helpless rage. (/r/pics)

  • Here’s something to get your day started right: a freakish red-velvet spider. Except that’s not a spider, silly! As one redditor points out, it’s a velvet mite. Ah, the important things you learn in /r/whatsthisbug. ([/r/whatsthisbug](/r/whatsthisbug

  • Sorry 5-Hour Energy, Reddit’s scientists are not impressed with you. “How does 5 hour energy (and more specifically, b vitamins such as b 12) give you more energy?” redditor Marshmon asks, to which others reply: caffeine plus placebo. (/r/askscience)

  • There’s controversy in /r/Music about popular song titles receiving upvotes (what’s the value in promoting music everyone already knows about?). Moderator Raerth has a solution and launches an external reader poll—an increasingly common method moderators are using to understand their communities. (/r/Music)

  • Star Trek actor and Reddit celebrity Wil Wheaton took part in this year’s Secret Santa and got trolled pretty hard. Good thing he and the troll both have a good sense of humor. (/r/secretsanta)
