There’s nothing more American than food stuffed inside other food. See, for example, everyone’s favorite Thanksgiving treat, turducken.
But with the holidays months away, the good citizens of the United States cry out for something to tide them over. Well, those cries have been answered in the best possible way. Meet your new bff (best food friend), the swineapple.

That’s right, it’s a pineapple stuffed with pork, wrapped in bacon and then cooked on a the grill, and even though it involves a fruit, people still seem pretty stoked about it.

There’s a ton of recipes for this thing available online, so you shouldn’t have trouble finding one. Here’s a few tips culled from the best of them.
- Make sure to get a large pineapple. The bigger it is the more pork you can stuff inside.
- Precook the inner meat (but not the bacon) for safety and to reduce total cooking time.
- Don’t remove too much of the pineapple. You don’t want it to fall apart on the grill.
- Maybe start jogging again?
Those warm summer night will be gone before you know it, so start buying your pineapples and weaving your bacon before it’s too late. Also, it doesn’t call for this in any of the recipes, but make sure to keep your camera handy. The swineapple trend seems to be as much about snapping a killer photo as it is eating killer food.
