Nickelodeon offered a sneak peek at the upcoming Rocko’s Modern Life reboot movie at San Diego Comic-Con, demonstrating just how Rocko, Heffer, and Filburt would react to the 21st century. Spoiler: not particularly well.
The preview takes on the show’s iconic opening sequence, updating it for the modern day, and it packs a lot of new references into a short period of time. Gentrification, a coffee shop that’s basically Starbucks, smartphones, 3D printing, energy drinks, realistic 3D movies, and even an abundance of tacos—of which the latter most might not be such a bad thing.
But more than 20 years after Rocko’s Modern Life—a show firmly planted in the ’90s—debuted, you can’t really blame Rocko for being completely overwhelmed by the sudden time jump.
