What exactly Jared Kushner’s voice sounds like has been somewhat of a mystery for some time now. Despite having one of the most high-profile and demanding positions on President Donald Trump‘s team, he’s managed to avoid the media almost entirely.
On Monday that silence was broken. Kushner spoke. Out loud. On live TV.
In some ways, Kushner sounds nothing like what you thought he would. In other ways, he sounds exactly like you thought he would.
Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, has been given an outsized role by the president, with his responsibilities reportedly including brokering peace in the Middle East, looking at efficiency in the federal government, reform the criminal justice system, tackling the opioid epidemic, and other tasks.
During his remarks on Monday, Kushner spoke about what the Trump administration is doing to improve government efficiency, such as bringing more government agencies working in cloud-based computer infrastructure.
“Our goal here is simple – we are here to improve the day to day lives of the average citizen,” Kushner said. “That is a core promise and we are keeping it.”

Kushner’s surprise public comments followed news that he’s reconsidering his legal team as he is reportedly being targeted by federal investigators in the ongoing probe into Russian ties with Trump’s presidential campaign and interference in the 2016 presidential election.
The New York Times reports that Trump’s son-in-law is quietly contacting high-profile criminal lawyers about representing him as the investigation continues to grow.
Kushner reportedly discussed creating a secret back-channel with Russia, which could be a part of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s widening investigation.
