Amal Clooney gave birth to twins, Ella and Alexander, on Tuesday. These are the first children for both high-profile human rights attorney and activist Amal, 39, and her husband, the actor and director George, 56.
“This morning Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives,” George’s publicist said in a statement. “Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine. George is sedated and should recover in a few days.”
The internet responded to the news with elation. Even the Anne Frank Center tweeted congratulations to Amal.
“I usually eschew celebrity news, but George and Amal Clooney having twins (boy & girl) seems like good news for humanity on some tiny level,” one user tweeted.

Amal and George have been married since 2014. Since the announcement of Amal’s pregnancy, the two have retained a low profile, although both have continued their careers.
In March, fans criticized Time for drawing attention to Amal’s baby bump when she appeared before the United Nations to ask them to investigate allegations of genocide by ISIS.
