Canvas, like the rest of the world, was rocked by the news of Steve Jobs’ death. Users of the imageboard reacted in the only way they knew how: memes, memes, and more memes.
Canvas is a new social media platform from 4chan creator Christopher Poole. Users upload photos and alter them using tools built into the website.
And yet despite the Jobs’ love fest, there were still plenty of Nyan cat references, Johann Sebastian Bach memes and question and answer threads to sink your teeth into.
For example, on Tuesday Canvas officially sponsored a drawing contest and asked its users to reinterpret their favorite piece of art or draw whales eating cookies. So far the thread has collected three pages worth of hilarious images. And no, the prize isn’t Canvas gold.
Here’s what else caught the Daily Dot’s eye this week on Canvas.
Monday
- Canvas wants to know, what you have and what you wish you had.
- Stack all the chairs!
- The return of Arrested Development has some hoping that David Cross reprises his role as a “blue man.”
Tuesday
- If there’s a cat stuck in the wall you can count on Canvas to do absolutely nothing. (And make a meme out of it.)
- Not sure if those hand gestures made it into “X-Men: First Class.”
- Large medieval man looks pissed.
- Mao Zedong may be dead but he’s very alive on Canvas.
- Canvas sponsored drawing contest inspires the masses to get creative.
Wednesday:
- Forget visiting your priest, confess all your sins on Canvas.
- The “99 percent” photos aren’t well received.
- A cake is the perfect way to say “I’m sorry.”
- News of Steve Jobs’ death breaks late in the day and Canvas quickly capitalized on his passing. Here are some other Jobs’ related threads that Canvas swooned over: Metal Gear Solid, Samsung breathes a sigh of relief, iPhone 4s, pour one out, Minecraft goes retro.
Thursday
- There’s nothing wrong with humping the ground (everywhere).
- Steve Jobs plays with Apple Photo Booth.
- One Oreo to rule them all.
- Dr. House is such a bad ass.
- One of these should be included with every iPhone purchase.
Friday
- Urinal etiquette.
- Bach is back.
- For all you Yankees fans out there, don’t panic. There’s always next season.
