Syrian dissidents have been using social media for the past several months to voice opposition to the government’s treatment of protesters. Meanwhile, government supporters have also been using social media to show support for President Bashar al-Assad. A new report suggests as many as 2,900 people have been killed since civil unrest began in mid-March.

The online debate shows how Syrian social media updates follow news cycle and give a glimpse at how it is being used by protesters and government supporters alike.
