Pride Month officially started yesterday, and Ivanka Trump set aside some time after Shavuot to commemorate the event for LGBTQ Americans. However, Twitter wasn’t overly excited to celebrate with Trump in light of her father’s presidential actions and inactions.
“Logging back on after Shavuot, wishing everyone a joyful #Pride2017. This month we celebrate and honor the #LGBTQ community,” Ivanka Trump wrote Thursday night. “I am proud to support my LGBTQ friends and the LGBTQ Americans who have made immense contributions to our society and economy.”

Responses started shortly after, with users calling out Ivanka for President Trump’s rescinding of transgender protections, Vice President Mike Pence’s pro-conversion therapy stances, and her inaction regarding those and many other issues. For activists, Ivanka remains largely apathetic toward preventing the Trump presidency from hurting LGBTQ Americans.
You don’t get to honor the LGBTQ community when the VP supports gay conversion therapy and your dad supports bathroom bills

I’d thank you for your tweet but I’m kind of busy getting deprogrammed in conversion therapy.

Many also complained that Ivanka is self-serving—she’ll praise the LGBTQ community while hardly caring about their struggles. Like father, like daughter, some joked.

Go screw yourself, @IvankaTrump. We needed action from you, not words. You’ve failed the LGBT community & the world. https://t.co/O5pm97njvg

Overall, many noted that for Ivanka to voice support for the LGBTQ community while her father remains silent shows that the Trump family is aware of the month, but that the president simply doesn’t care to commemorate its significance.
